The proposal for the hike in the monthly power tariff for the domestic, commercial and other users across Jammu and Kashmir has left the consumers shocked as the people are unsatisfied with the electricity supply. In the recent, the people across Jammu and Kashmir witnessed worst-ever erratic power supply in the month of Ramadhan when the electricity was of dire need, especially for the Muslim population. But, the department could not supply adequate electricity to the consumers in the month of Ramadhan, leaving them to lurch at large. However, the government blamed the untimely rise in temperature and deficient rainfall in the recent months for the worst power scenario. Amid such a situation, the government is now proposing to hike the monthly power tariff for the consumers in Jammu and Kashmir, which has been objected by the people, especially the traders, who claim that the business community in particular and common people in general is passing through tough times due to back to back lockdowns imposed by the government in wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. They believe that the traffic hike will create further financial miseries on common people, thus there is a need to reconsider the decision of hike in power tariff. The government must find other ways especially reducing the AT&C losses rather than going for enhancing the monthly power tariff of the consumers. The decision to enhance monthly tariff to the consumers will add to their misery and thus the reconsideration over the decision is the need of the hour so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief.
