Srinagar, May 20: A Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) man was injured during an overnight blaze that damaged Kothi Bagh Police Station here in the intervening night of Friday-Saturday.
An official said that the fire broke out from the upper floor of the building and within no time, the fire engulfed the whole building.
They said that the firefighters from F&ES reached the spot and brought the fire under control.
In the incident, the 1st floor of the Police Station was completely damaged, while one fire fighter identified as Ansar Ahmad Malla was injured while dousing the flames, he was referred to SMHS Hospital for treatment, where his condition is said to be stable.
Pertinently, Traffic Police headquarters was partially damaged in an overnight blaze two days back. The fire damaged the top floor of the headquarters with all the high-end equipment in the Traffic Control room gutted.
Meanwhile, Srinagar Police in a tweet said that all the Police station records and articles are intact, adding that prima facie the fire seems accidental.
“Around midnight, a fire incident took place in first floor of Kothibagh PS building. Due to wooden nature of structures on the first floor, the fire spread to some rooms. The fire was controlled within few hours by efforts of fire department. Prima facie the fire seems accidental,” Srinagar Police tweeted.
“As fire didn’t spread to ground floor, all the Police station records and articles are intact. Damage took place to SP, SDPO chambers, allied offices and barracks on first floor,” Police tweeted.
