Baramulla, Jun 1: Municipal Committee Baramulla on Wednesday sealed the district office of the Congress party for allegedly not paying the monthly rent to Municipal Committee.
A team from MC Baramulla visited the Congress office and sealed it. “The property belongs to Municipal Committee and has been rented to Congress party,” an employee said adding that Congress party has not been paying rent.
Municipal Council President Touseef Raina said that an outstanding of 9 lac is pending with Congress.
“Around six hundred rupees is the yearly rent of the office and the Congress owes Rs. 9 lakhs. We have informed them time and again but they are not paying the outstanding amount, so we sealed it today, ” Raina added.
He said that if the Congress will not clear the outstanding amount, then Municipal Committee will rent it out to some NGO or some other agency who can generate employment.
Terming the move as ‘political vendetta’ senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Monga said that MC Baramulla didn’t follow the proper procedure. “MC Baramulla should have given us an intimation or a letter mentioning the outstanding amount, but it abruptly locked our district office which speaks volumes,” he said adding that this office is located in a vulnerable place and Congress workers usually avoid visiting this office.
