As the world observes no tobacco day, the huge chunk of population in Jammu and Kashmir continue to risk their lives by puffing dozens of cigarettes on a regular basis, which is not only reading for the deadly diseases, but also lands the other people in trouble as well. Not only the adults, but it has been observed that the younger lot in Kashmir are also involved in smoking and unfortunately the society in general and the law implementing agencies in particular are turning blind eye towards the grave issue. As per the studies available, a large number of people have so far died due to the excessive consumption of tobacco, but one fails to understand why the government has so far failed to take requisite measures with regard to banning the selling and consumption of tobacco. Studies have shown that the people who are addicted to tobacco have developed serious illnesses including cancer, but the open sale in the market is continuously putting the lives of people at risk. However, despite facing serious ramifications, the people are still reluctant to give away the tobacco. At the same time, the people, especially the government also observed no tobacco day, but until and unless the necessary measures are taken, the lives of people would continue to remain at a greater risk. Therefore, in order to prevent the deadly diseases and put an end to the consumption of tobacco, there is a need to come up with stringent measures so that the precious lives would be saved. There is a need to immediately ban the selling and buying of tobacco stuff from the markets, which would help in preventing the society from vulnerable diseases.
