Panic in Pulwama villages after bear mauls four persons

Pulwama, Jun 24: Panic gripped several villages in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district after at least four persons were injured in bear attack in Tahab and Malpora areas of the district.
An official said that bear attacked and injured two persons in Tahab area of Pulwama who were later shifted to a hospital.
He identified the injured duo as Gh Hassan (50) son of Mohd Shaban Wani resident of Tahab age 50 patient is normal discharge and Ab Rashid (55) son of Mohd Ismail Ganaie resident of Tahab while adding that later Ab Rashid was shifted to SMHS Srinagar where his condition is said to be stable while Gh Hassan was discharged from Hospital.
Later, the bear attacked two more persons in Malpora Nawhara area of Pulwama, who were injured in the incident and were shifted to a hospital, the official said.
He identified the injured duo as Bashir Ahmad and Manzoor Ahmad both residents of Nawhara Pulwama who are undergoing treatment at district hospital Pulwama.
Meanwhile locals from the area said that the presence of beast has created panic in whole area and people are fearing to even come out of houses.
They said people of around one dozen villages are in fear while requesting authorities to capture the animal at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, a wildlife official said that their team is in the area since morning and efforts are on capture the animal.
He said that due the fragmentation of habitat of wild animals, the cases are increasing and interference into the habitat of animals, which is another reason that pushes wild animals towards residential areas
He said that people should not move alone early morning and evening hours.
He also stressed that movement of children and women should be restricted during evening and morning hours and people must move out of homes in groups.
