The announcement made by the administration in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, has brought hopes among the unemployed people, who have been struggling hard to get employment to earn the bread and butter for their families. However, the government at the same time has said that the qualified youth must give up the mind-set of waiting for government jobs. The decision has brought smiles on the faces of the unemployed youth, but the question remains what is being done for the people, who are already serving in departments since decades as daily wagers, casual labourers and other temporary employees. These employees have knocked almost every door here, but all that they have got so far was nothing beyond the assurances with regard to the regularization of their services. It sounds good that a new job policy will be rolled out in Jammu and Kashmir for the youth, but leaving the temporary employees to suffer further is putting a question mark over the dual attitude of the government. It is imperative to come up with jobs for the unemployed youth though, but it is equally mandatory to give a sense of security to the temporary employees, who are serving with dedication and honesty for years together in different departments. The administration should also find ways and means to accommodate the temporary employees at earliest so that they and their families could heave a sigh of relief. The new job policy is a welcome move, but leaving the already serving employees to lurch is not acceptable and needs to be given a thorough look.
