Yet again, the temperature soared in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, where the hottest day of the season was recorded just two days back and is reeling under intense heat wave at present. In such a situation, the youngsters have started thronging the water bodies to beat the heat. But, if we go the past, the multiple incidents were reported from different parts when the youth and minor drowned to death while taking a bath. The government last year banned the bathing at different water bodies, but the orders are being defied openly as the youth in large number could be seen taking bath at different water bodies, due to which the lives of these remain under constant risk. The weatherman has predicted persistent heat wave amid the forecast of rainfall on July 4, but the time calls for taking appropriate measures to prevent any untoward incident at these water bodies. Therefore, the concerned district administrations should impose a blanket ban on the bathing at the water bodies so that the possibility of drowning incidents can be thwarted well on time. It’s a time when the officials on the ground should identify the vulnerable spots where these youth take bath so that no one is allowed to risk their lives by taking bath and prevent the previous like incidents. Especially, the places where the water flow remains high should on priority be kept out of bounds for the youth as a precautionary measure.
