Illegal promotions in SMC: Govt sets-up fact-finding committee

Srinagar, Aug 1: The Jammu & Kashmir Government has constituted a fact-finding committee to enquire into illegal promotions granted to engineering staff of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
The Housing & Urban Development Department (HUDD) has constituted a two-member panel comprising Ashish Gupta(special secretary, H&UDD) and Naseer Ahmad Kakroo(chief engineer, Urban Environmental Engineering Department) to look into the promotions granted from time to time pointed out by the inquiry officer in his report submitted to the Government on June 9, 2021.
According to an order issued by the administrative department, the panel has been directed to verify whether the promotions were in consonance with qualification and rules.
As per its terms of reference, the fact-finding committee will also identify the officers/ officials and their acts of omissions and commissions, leading to their promotions.
The committee has been directed to completed inquiry and submit its report within a period of one month from the date of issuance of its order.
The government has directed Mudasir Ahmad, secretary, SMC to assist the committee in holding the enquiry.
It is worthwhile to mention that in the month of May this year the government ordered enquiry into the illegal promotions granted and posts created in Srinagar Municipal Corporation in 2016 by the then SMC Commissioner.
