Srinagar, Aug 9: The Election Commission of India on Tuesday revised the schedule of special summary revision of electoral rolls in Jammu & Kashmir, setting November 25 as date for culmination of the exercise.
Making changes in its earlier schedule announced on June 29, the poll-body today extended the date for publication of electoral rolls by 25 days.
As per the new schedule, the ECI has set November 25 as the date for final publication of electoral rolls whereas October 31 was fixed for the same as per earlier schedule.
According to a press release issued by J&K’s chief electoral officer this evening, the revision activities shall begin on 15th September.
“In order to provide more opportunities to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir the Commission has extended the period for filing of claims and objections from 30 days to 40 days i.e. 15th September to 25th October, 2022,” reads the handout.
The final electoral roll shall be published on November 25, 2022, the handout states.
The CEO’s office said that presently pre-revision activities and post delimitation follow-up work is going on.
“At present the pre-revision activities as well as post delimitation follow up work is going on in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, wherein the existing electoral roll of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir is being mapped into the newly delimited assembly constituencies as per the delimitation commission’s final order made applicable by the Union Law Ministry w.e.f. 20th May 2022,” reads the handout.
