Anantnag, Aug 25: Inhabitants of Pohru village of Kalnag area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, having around 500 households, are facing immense hardships as the authorities have failed to bring respite to the dwellers by ensuring proper road connectivity and healthcare facility to them.
The residents of far-off Pohru Kalnag village, which is around 40 kilometres from district headquarters, have to walk around six kilometres by foot and then drive up to eight kilometres to reach the nearest sub district hospital for receiving the treatment.
“In the 21st century, we have been deprived of the road connectivity facility,” locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), adding that whether it was elected government or Governor rule, everyone has failed to bring respite to the people here.
They said that in case of emergencies, they have no option other than taking the patients on cot for about six kilometres and during night & wet weather conditions; it becomes more difficult for them to reach the hospital.
Many patients from the area have died on way to the hospital in absence of any health care facility, said Arshid Ahmad, a local resident, adding that despite informing authorities several times, nothing has been done in this regard.
Locals said that they are still being forced to live in a dark age and it is unfortunate that no concrete measures are being taken to ensure better facilities to the residents here.
The locals have demanded immediate attention of Lieutenant Governor led administration in this regard and urged him to direct concerned authorities to provide basic facilities to the area so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
