Crimes against senior citizens on rise in JK

40 crime cases reported in year 2021

Srinagar, Sep 5: The crime rates against senior citizens in Jammu and Kashmir are on rise as just single case of crime against senior citizens was registered in year 2019 but it has gone to 40 in year 2021.
The report states that one crime case of crime against senior citizens was registered in J&K in year 2019, five in 2020 and 40 in year 2022.
As per data, J&K has around 9 lakh population with age above 60 years and crime rate is around 4.4 percent and charge-sheet rate for year 2021 is 85.7 percent.
As per data 40 cases include two cases of murder, one case of attempt to murder, one case of simple hurt U/S 323 & 324 IPC, one case of grievous hurt U/S 325, 326, 326A and 326B.
The cases as per data also include a single case of robbery U/S 392-394, 397,397 IPC, 18 cases of criminal trespass U/S 447-452 IPC and 16 other IPC crimes.
As per data, 42 cases of crimes against senior citizens including two pending cases of 2020 were investigated in year 2021,however, no previous case was reopened for investigation in year 2021.
