The releasing of Rs 20 crore funds for the macadamization of Srinagar roads in favour of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) raises eyebrows among many as the timeliness for releasing the funds is seemingly inappropriate as most of the people believe that it wouldn’t be possible for the concerned authorities to complete the macadamization process on time. The apt time for macadamization is usually the mid-months of every year as the temperature remains always suitable for going ahead with the process, but this time, the process to macadamize the Srinagar roads after a gap of nearly 5-8 years, would unlikely be completed while the officials also believe the funds would lapse as the winter season is approaching and is set to halt the macadamization work, if started early this month. The tenders have already been floated and it would take some more time to complete the paperwork to start the groundwork, but one fails to understand why the government chose an inappropriate time for the work. There are people who believe that the untimely decision points towards the non-seriousness of the administration in executing the work on the ground. In order to ensure completion of the macadamization process on time, there is a need to complete the paperwork at earliest so that the ground work is started and the people, especially commuters here could heave a sigh of relief. It is a time when the SMC should gear its men and machinery to execute the work to put an end to the sufferings of people and ensure that the funds will not lapse.
