The world observed Teachers Day yesterday, celebrating their contribution to the society from time to time and highlighted their role especially during the Covid-19 pandemic when all the educational institutions remained closed across the globe. The government also praised the teachers for their role in national-building, but the ground reality for most of the teachers didn’t change ever as the peanuts being provided to them in the shape of monthly salary, is shameful and unfortunate as well. Highlighting their contribution is tantamount to rubbing salt on their wounds as every successive regime has failed to contribute in ensuring handsome salary and remuneration to the teaching faculty of most private institutions. In the 21st century, there are schools, where the teachers are being provided Rs 3000 per month as the salary, but it is unfortunate that those who are playing key role in nation-building are not getting the actual rights and have become the victims of the businessmen, who are running the schools to earn money, rather than playing their role in ensuring better society and the nation as well. The concerned authorities are tightlipped over the issue, putting a question mark over the credibility of the education department here and also raise doubts over the functioning of the department. There is a dire need to look into the issue and ensure that those who play the role in nation-building are given the rights and are not asked to work like animals anymore.
