Srinagar, Sep 14: The two-month long special summary revision of electoral rolls in Jammu & Kashmir would begin on Thursday with publication on integrated draft electoral rolls.
Setting the process of revision of electoral rolls for assembly and parliamentary constituencies in motion, J&K’s chief electoral officer has announced that integrated draft electoral Roll would be published on September 15(Thursday).
The Election Commissions of India had last month announced schedule for special summary revision of electoral rolls. This is after a gap of three years that the poll-body has ordered revision of electoral rolls as the exercise couldn’t be conducted due to delimitation of Assembly and parliamentary seats of J&K.
According to a public notice issued by the CEO’s office, the draft photo electoral rolls-2022 will be available at district headquarters/tehsil offices/offices of Srinagar and Jammu Municipal Corporations/ booth level officers at Polling Station level and on the website of the chief electoral officer, J&K (ceojk.nic.in) for the information of all concerned.
The publication of the draft electoral roll would also start the process of filing claims and objections. As per schedule announced by the ECI, the claims and objections can be filed from September 15 to October 25.
Likewise, disposal of claims and objections has been scheduled on November 10, while the final electoral roll would be published on November 25.
Similarly, special campaign dates have been scheduled on September 24 and 25 and October 1, 2, 15 and 16.
According to the notice issued by the CEO’s office, all individuals who are 18 years of age or above as on October 1, 2022 can get their names enrolled in the electoral rolls.
The notice also states that it should be noted that registration as a voter at two places is an offence under the Representation of People Act, 1950.
“The claims and objections can be filled in both online as well as offline mode. For online filing of claims/objections, one can log on to www.nvsp.in or download voter helpline app (VHA). For offline mode, the concerned BLO/AERO/ERO can be contacted”, the notice quotes.
“All stakeholders are therefore requested to participate in the revision exercise in order to ensure that the maximum number of eligible voters are enrolled in the electoral rolls”, it reads.
