The delay in implementation of the Road Safety Action Plan is the need of the hour as the further delay in this regard would never bring any respite from the increasing fatalities in the road accidents across Srinagar and other places. A meeting was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, in which the issue was discussed threadbare and all the officers were directed to be proactive in implementation of the Road Safety Action Plan on priority basis for better management of the traffic system. The fatalities, injuries in the road accidents have continued to mount and the timely action at this juncture become imperative and thus removing the road side objects that hinder smooth traffic ply should be the first step towards improving the situation. There are several measures that need to be taken immediately to bring respite on the ground. To improve the traffic congestion and facilitate the movement of pedestrians as well as commuters, the immediate measures must be taken by the concerned authorities so that such issues being faced by the commuters on a regular basis are put to an immediate end. There is also a dire need to operate the road accident fund in order to provide financial assistance to the road accident victims. Such measures have been discussed threadbare, but it is the time when the government should think out of the paperwork and implement the orders in letter and spirit so that the people could heave a sigh of relief.
