The downtown areas in Srinagar houses many monuments which attracts the tourists all across the globe. However, some departments are turning blind eye towards the sufferings of the local residents here and fail to take appropriate steps for the wellbeing of the people. A report has come to the fore in which the media has highlighted the sufferings of people due to the failure of the concerned department to renovate the road after completing the drainage system. The roads in various localities including Makhdoom Sahib, Tuj Gari Mohalla Nowhatta, Shampora Rasgari Mohalla, Bachi Darwaza, Sheikh Colony Makhdoom Sahib, Naid Kadal, Khawaja Bazar and adjoining areas are almost in shambles as the roads were dug up recently and the road networks were left without carrying repairs causing inconvenience to them. One fails to understand why the concerned authorities don’t start immediate repairing work after digging the roads for some works. It is not for the first time that such lethargy has been witnessed, but in the past as well, the concerned authorities have delayed the repairing work on the roads after digging it for different purposes. Such a negligent attitude is always pushing the people to the wall, but the concerned authorities have the responsibility to repair the roads to end the miseries of the people. It is the time when the concerned authorities should start the repairing work immediately before the onset of the winter season so that the grievances of downtown residents are addressed and the people, especially the commuters could heave a sigh of relief.
