Ganderbal, Oct 14: Chattergul area situated on the upper reaches of Ganderbal is rich in scenic beauty with streams, meadows and dense forest.
But people are disappointed after the demand of declaring it as a tourist village has been declined by authorities for the reasons best known to them.
A local Sajad Ahmad said that designating the village as a tourist village can give opportunities to generate their livelihood.
The government has identified 181 villages’ picturesque beauty and cultural significance for transformation into tourist destinations with the aim of strengthening the rural economy and empowering the youth and women by direct and indirect employment opportunities.
According to the Sarpanch of the area, he said the proposal was put forward in public outreach Back to Village programme and also brought into notice of LG administration but nothing happened.
