Parking facility in Downtown must

The downtown area houses various famous shops where the people from all across the Valley visit to buy clothes, essentials and other things, but what leads to their hardships is the lack of parking facilities, which sans the decades-old traditional markets in Srinagar. Anyone visiting the downtown areas face tremendous hardships while parking their vehicles on the roadsides as the commuters are being forced to park their vehicles anywhere on the road in absence of the parking facility. The illegal car parking on the roadsides usually leads to the traffic mess, forcing the commuters to remain stuck in the traffic for a long time, causing delay to them in reaching their destinations. The roads in the downtown area are already congested and with the illegal car parking, the situation gets worsening every day, especially when the flow of traffic remains high. There is a dire need of tackling the situation amid the increase in public and private traffic on the roads. The only thing that can prove fruitful is the establishment of parking slots as the absence of the facility is not only pushing the commuters to the wall, but the traders too have been facing immense hardships due to the frequent traffic congestion. It is a time for the concerned to identify the places for establishing parking facilities so that the illegal car parking on the roadsides would come to an end and the congested roads would ensure smooth passage to the commuters. The government should take a call in this regard and ensure that the aspirations of commuters and especially the traders are accommodated at this juncture.
