Anantnag, Oct 24: Residents of Subhanpora village in Bijbehara and Hanjibal area of Kakapora are facing acute shortage of drinking water causing immense hardships to people.
The residents of Subhanpora area said that they have been facing water shortage for the last four years and authorities are acting as a mute spectator.
A local Auqaf member said that there is no water facility in the area and people are forced to drink contaminated water.
He said that in absence of potable water, women folk of the area have to cover a distance of a kilometre to collect water in buckets.
Locals said that they have brought the issue into notice of concerned authorities but nothing was done on the ground.
They requested concerned authorities to look into the matter and take immediate steps so that locals can get potable water.
An official said that the area is being covered under Jal Jeevan Mission and they will get water supply soon.
Meanwhile, residents of Hanjibal Kakapora also alleged that the area has no potable water facility due to which locals are suffering.
“We are drinking contaminated water due to which there are chances that water borne diseases can break out any time,” said Zameer Ahmad, a local.
Locals requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
