Keep Kashmir’s fruit lifeline moving

Remembering Hazrat Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom (RA)

The winter is approaching in the Valley, but the miseries have already knocked the doors of people here as the grave issues have once again started haunting the consumers in the markets as the business units, especially those buying the food stuff are out to charge exorbitant rates from the general public, which has failed to catch the eye of the local administration, thus delaying the action against the involved persons. Everything—from poultry to vegetables and fruits are being sold at the exorbitant rates to the consumers, but unfortunately there are no sustained measures on the ground to prevent profiteering. It seems that the concerned authorities have confined their role to release on rate lists of essential items only as the further and necessary measures on the ground were never implemented in spirit, which would have caused some respite to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The people here have always been pushed to the wall as there has never been a positive response from the administration in implementing the rate lists in letter and spirit, which points towards the non-seriousness of the administration in putting an end to the profiteering. The delay and non-seriousness has brought miseries to the people and thus simultaneously putting a question mark over the tall claims of the administration in ensuring transparency at all the platforms. The exorbitant rates of essentials has always been witnessed during and ahead of winter season, but it is the time when the concerned authorities should gear up and ensure that no space is provided to the profiteers so that the consumers could heave a sigh of relief.
