In yet another instance of risking the lives of the school-going children, the overcrowded vehicles could be seen ferrying the students to and from their respective homes to the schools. It seems that both—the school administration as well as the parents are least bothered to ensure the safety of their students, thus putting the lives of the students at risk. However, police have come to the rescue of these students as for the first time in this year; a school van was seized for overcrowding as well as posing a safety threat to the school children in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. A van overcrowded with school children was intercepted at IG road near Peerbagh by police and it was found that though the seating capacity of the vehicle was 7 only but the same was packed with 13 school children hence posing serious threat to them. It is unfortunate that the school administration is not taking a serious look into the matter as any small incident would endanger the lives of many young buds. There is a need for active participation of school authorities, parents and the general public to abide by the law and make roads safer for school children. Therefore, the parents as well as the school administration must play their pivotal role in this regard and ensure complete safety to the students especially while travelling to and from their respective schools.
