The loan culture in Kashmir: Balancing need and luxury

With the onset of winter season in the Valley, the miseries have started knocking the doors of people, especially those who are scheduled to visit outside places by air as the air fare has been hiked yet again like the past, while the government has been acting as mute spectator with taking no action in this regard. The air fare has always been skyrocketing in Kashmir whenever the temperature starts plummeting in the winter period, pushing the people to the wall. The service providers have always resorted to the arbitrary hike of the air fare, but the government has never shown any intent to look into the matter and bring respite to the people, who have been suffering because of these abrupt hikes. However, one fails to understand why these service providers are being allowed to mint money from the general public during the winters. It seems that the grave issue is being ignored by the people at the helm of affairs for vested interests as there has been no change in this attitude of the service providers since long despite the issue being highlighted by the media from time to time. It is the time when the government should swing into action and take steps to ensure that the arbitrary hike in the air fare is controlled well on time and the people could heave a sigh of relief. The service providers must be dealt with strictly for leaving the people to lurch at large.
