It has been hectic to commute on the roads across the Valley, especially in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir as most of U-turns have been closed by the authorities by erecting barricades, causing huge inconvenience to the commuters. Especially, when the people are in an emergency, there is no one to hear their plea when it comes to taking u-turns as the people have to cross almost one kilometre on every road to take the u-turn. Putting barricades on the u-turns is the move taken by the authorities to ensure least traffic congestion on the roads, but such a measure has resulted in the hardships among the commuters, who have time and again criticized the step and demand early redressal of their grievance. One cannot understand why the government is reluctant to take more proactive decisions like widening of roads and other related things to ensure smooth passage to the commuters, rather the measures being taken to address the issue of traffic congestion is pushing the people to the wall. Almost every u-turn, barring a few, has been closed by the authorities concerned, but such a decision needs to be relooked so that the commuters could heave a sigh of relief. The concerned departments must take favourable and necessary steps to address the issue and ensure that the roads are widened so that the commuters are not forced to face hardships for taking u-turns. There is a need to remove the barricades on the u-turns to ensure that the sufferings of commuters are put to an immediate end.
