The people are all set to witness less power supply during the winters as the department has clarified through its new schedule that eight hour power curtailment will be made in the areas where the meters have not been installed. In the 15 hours from morning to evening, the non-metered areas in Srinagar will have to face eight-hour power curtailment erratically, which means more than half a time in one day, the people will be faced to reel under darkness, indicating the sufferings of people in the harsh winter days to come. Despite claiming high and tall, the authorities seem to have taken no concrete steps to put an end to the power woes in Kashmir during the winters as the curtailment schedule has hardly witnessed any change on the ground. Besides the curtailment schedule, the people have always been witnessing the pesky power cuts, which would further add to the miseries of the people. However, the government’s top officials have recently taken note of the pesky power cuts, saying that interrupted power supply is unacceptable, but what is happening on the ground is putting a question mark over the claims of the administration. There is a need to look into the matter and ensure that the curtailment hours are reduced further so that the people living in the non-metered areas could heave a sigh of relief in the upcoming harsh winter period.
