The tariff hike yet again has shocked the consumers of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) as it has been just two months since the previous hike was made by the department amid the complaints of erratic power supply in the winters. Everybody was puzzled when they were served the monthly electricity bill by the employees of the KPDCL in the last few days as monthly electricity tariff has been hiked yet again, causing worry among the people, especially the downtown residents, who demand early revocation of the decision for their wellbeing. One fails to understand why the department has increased the monthly tariff twice in the last two months. The decision has left the poor people to lurch at large. Most of the people living in downtown areas are labourers and would not be able to pay the hefty amount as monthly power tariff. There is no iota of doubt that the electricity is being used like anything by the consumers, but at least the government should understand the situation of the downtrodden section of the society and also the hike of electricity tariff twice in three months is unjustified. It is the time when the government should hear the plea of the poor people and take some decisions to ensure that the downtrodden section of the society is not pushed to the wall. The decision keeping in view of the sufferings of people should be revisited so that the consumers could heave a sigh of relief.
