Srinagar, Dec 5: Dr Farooq Abdullah was on Monday re-elected unopposed as president of the National Conference.
The party presidential polls were held today at party head office Nawa-e-Subh in Srinagar.
NC spokesperson, Imran Nabi Dar said that Dr Farooq was re-elected unopposed as party president.
Earlier, Dr Farooq, who has been heading the party since 1981, on November 19 had announced not to contest the presidential polls. The announcement was made by him just a few hours after the party officials announced elections.
Sources said that after persistent requests by the leaders, Dr Farooq announced to contest the presidential polls again during a provincial meeting of the party, held recently in Srinagar.
The decision was appreciated and welcomed by all the participants, they said. (KNO)
