Health Centre at Bandipora’s Kuragbal village sans staff, basic facilities

Gurez, Dec 6: The residents of Kuragbal village of Gurez Tehsil in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday complained of inadequate healthcare and lack of basic facilities at the Sub center in the village.
The residents said that the health centre was inadequately staffed due to which patient care had been badly hit. “The poor healthcare facilities in the area are forcing us to rely on health facilities elsewhere and pay a huge amount of fare in order to shift a patient to another hospital,” they said.
They further said that a single nursing ordinary is posted their which speaks volumes about the functioning of the health centre in this remote area. “We are always treated unfairly. Older people are more worried about medical facilities here as other hospitals are far away from here,” Mushtaq Ahmad, a local said.
He said that the health centre is running in a wooden hut for years now and the concerned authorities are not paying any heed towards its upgrade. “Recently my mother was suffering from high fever. We rushed him to the sub-centre but unfortunately it was locked,” Talib Hussain, another local said.
The residents said that they had several times brought these grievances to the notice of the concerned officials but nothing concrete had been done in this regard so far.
The locals have requested the Block Medical Officer (BMO) Gurez to personally look into the matter and redress their grievance. However an official assured that the issues will be redressed very soon. (KNO)
