Ganderbal, Dec 16: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today took an extensive tour of Mountain Livestock Research Institute (MLRI), Manasbal with an aim to look into the technological accomplishments in various units of SKUAST-Kashmir, in District Ganderbal and their large-scale dissemination at grassroots levels.
During his visit to MLRI Manasbal, DC took a comprehensive visit of the field and various units, particularly milk processing plant, Feed mill, Vermicompost Unit, fodder demonstration blocks, and dairy unit and it was impressed upon the scientists to work for upscaling of various units so that they can be utilized for meeting the requirement of public at large.
He appreciated the activities undertaken at these units and suggested for making MLRI more vibrant and people centric.
Further, the DC instructed KVK Ganderbal and MLRI Manasbal, to work in a collaborative mode with district administration in areas of breed and feed production, dissemination and distribution across different blocks of the district for which a comprehensive proposal shall be submitted by the Head of the institute.
It was also impressed upon the scientists for increasing the frequency of vermicompost cycles in existing vermicompost units so that the technology is made available for adoption by the entrepreneurs.
A comprehensive program for production and popularization of vermi/ biocompost and year-round availability of green fodder to boost dairy sector shall be taken up on priority, the DC maintained.
The heads of the centers assured the DC that all efforts shall be made for refinement and upscaling of activities in collaboration with the district administration as per the suggestions communicated.
