Four of family found dead under ‘mysterious circumstances’ in Banihal

Banihal, Dec 28: Four of a family were found dead under ‘mysterious circumstances’ in Banihal area of Ramban district on Wednesday.
An official said that four bodies of a family including three siblings, were found inside the house in Checknarwa Chopan Pora area of Banihal. The dead family members includes mother, two daughters and a son.
The official said that the cause of death was being ascertained, while post mortem of bodies have been conducted.
“Samples have also been taken from the spot including food they ate last evening”, he said. He identified the deceased as Noor Jahan, wife of Abdul Rashid, Zaffer Ahmad, son of Abdul Rashid, Shazia Bano daughter of Abdul Rashid and Asiya Bano Daughter of Abdul Rashid.
Station House Officer (SHO) Banihal, Muhammad Afzal Wani said that four bodies have been recovered and they were ascertaining the further details.
However, local said that the family must have apparently died of asphyxiation caused by inhaling the gas emanating from a coal heater which they had kept in the room due to intense cold.
J&K National Conference wrote on its official twitter handle: “Dr Farooq, @OmarAbdullah grieved over the tragic death of 4 persons in Chaknarwah Banihal due to suffocation. We pray for peace to the deceased, strength to the bereaved.”
