In this bone-chilling cold, the consumers across the Valley should get adequate electricity to ensure that the people will not face any hardships during the intense cold that has gripped Kashmir in the past over one week. However, some of the areas, as reported by a section of media are without electricity for the past few days as the transformers in their areas have developed some technical snag. One fails to understand why it is taking too long to repair the damaged transformers, despite the authorities concerned claiming that adequate measures have been taken to ensure that the consumers don’t face any hardships. It is the time when the consumers at some places are facing tremendous hardships amid the intense cold, but one needs to understand why the ground situation is different than the promises being made with the people ahead of the winters in the Valley. The consumers are being repeatedly asked to pay the double amount as the monthly tariff, but what they are getting is indeed visible on the ground, thus putting a question mark over the claims being made by the government from time to time. The concerned department should ensure that the statements being made by the top level officials are implemented in letter and spirit. Therefore, all the necessary measures at this juncture are the need of the hour so that during the weather vagaries, the consumers are not pushed to the wall and the steps are taken to ensure that the damaged transformers are repaired in a shortest possible time and other technical snags are rectified without pushing the consumers to the wall.
