Pulwama, Jan 4: Even after elapsing over 11 years, the District Institute of Education Training (DIET) in Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is awaiting completion.
Officials said that since the last three or four years, the construction work has been put on halt as there were no funds available for its construction.
They said that the new building was sanctioned in 2009-10 with an aim of providing a proper space for teachers and work was entrusted to the R & B department.
Several teachers said that 11 years have passed but the building is still incomplete forcing teachers to use a shabby room of a local higher secondary school as their training centre.
They said that during the initial period of the project, there wasn’t any shortage of funds, however, once government changed in 2014-15, the funds started drying up.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
An official of the R&B department said that due to the shortage of funds, the work was put on halt several times due to paucity of funds.
He said that the department has already forwarded fresh project report years before but so far higher ups haven’t responded in this regard.
He added that they are hopeful that very soon something positive will be done in this regard.
