The overloading, riding two-wheeler without crash helmets, disobeying traffic signals are among the main violations found in the year 2022 as nearly 88,000 challans have been issued by the traffic police Srinagar in the previous year, indicating the reluctance of commuters with regard to ensuring safe journey on the roads. Fatal accidents are being reported everywhere in Jammu and Kashmir while riding motorcycles without crash helmets and overloading in passenger vehicles remain among the major causes behind the accidents. However, a report published in a section of the media has indicated that the people are reluctant to follow the guidelines and thus commute without taking proper precautions. The data quoted in the report revealed that riding without a helmet is among one of the top traffic violations done by commuters in Srinagar, with 39,534 challans issued for the same. Traffic police have issued 28,099 challans for disobeying traffic signals. While tightening the noose on overloading in passenger vehicles, the 19,994 challans were issued during the previous year. The report is quite disturbing amid the increasing fatal accidents that claim the loss of precious lives, especially the youngsters. However, the challans cannot be a fine solution to put an end to such violations, but the parents have to play a pivotal role in this regard and ensure that their beloved take proper care while driving to ensure that the fatal accidents are put to an end so that the precious lives are saved.
