Yet again, a directive has been issued with regard to the Pheran, which is traditional cloth of Kashmir, usually being worn by the people in the Valley to protect themselves from the icy weather conditions. However, the traditional wear has always remained in the media from time to time; directives have been issued in this regard, asking people not to wear the cloth while visiting the particular offices. Similar directions have been passed in this regard by Jammu & Kashmir Bank Branch Achabal in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, prohibiting the entry of people with Pherans, citing security reasons. A circular issued in this regard has gone viral on social media platforms in which the bank branch has asked people with Pheran not to enter the bank premises. The directive has been issued at a time when the administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is putting every effort to give a boost to the tradition and culture of Jammu and Kashmir. However, such directives at this juncture, is set to play a spoilsport and also puts a question mark over the seriousness of the administration regarding the measures being taken to boost the tradition and culture of Kashmir. It is the time when strict directions should be passed by the administration to ensure that the directions being issued regarding Pheran are put to an immediate end and no one else in the future would come up with such directions. It is the time to act against officials or officers, who are hell-bent to demote the tradition and culture of the Union Territory so that the motive of administration is achieved.
