Youth leadership, empowerment essential for curbing drug menace: DC Bandipora

Bandipora, Jan 16: Bandipora Youth Federation in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora on Monday Organised a Youth Convention themed ‘Let’s take a stand, for a Drug free land’ at mini secretariat, here.
The convention was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed and was attended by SSP Bandipora Lakshay Sharma, Padmashree Faisal Ali Dar, JD Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, Programme Manager DIC Mehraj Wani, members of Bandipora Youth Federation and large gathering of youth from across the Bandipora.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC deliberated upon various roles of youth beginning from home towards society and nation. He said organising youth convention and creation of youth federations will empower youth and create a skillful generation for better development.
Highlighting the role of youth in curbing Drug menace, Dr. Owais said that Youth are capable of leading the change and can come up with fruitful initiatives in eradicating drug menace. He urged youth to come forward and show maximum potential on different platforms.
He said youth leadership and youth empowerment is important in eradicating social evils like drug abuse. He urged them to avail benefits of self-employment schemes besides taking front in the tourism sector.
Dr. Owais asked the participants to actively participate in Gram Sabhas and be part of planning at Panchayat level.
He asked the officers to organise awareness programmes at panchayat level for solid waste management and drug De-addiction involving youth clubs and PRIs.
He appealed to youth to become aware of the changing scenario in employment and skill and keep themselves updated with latest developments and work towards excellence.
SSP Bandipora Lakshay Sharma on the occasion threw light on various youth engagement programmes. He said cooperation between police and public is essential for curbing drug menace and stressed upon youth and the general public to cooperate with police and administration in eradicating drug menace.
Padmashree Faisal Ali Dar who is also president of Bandipora Youth Federation deliberated upon various aspects of Bandipora Youth Federation. He said the aim of Bandipora Youth Federation is to unite the youth of Bandipora on the developmental front and work for all round development of youth and make Bandipora a drug free land.
