Shooting stones disrupt traffic along Sgr-Jmu highway for four hours

Srinagar, Jan 16: The traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained suspended for almost four hours on Monday due to shooting stones at Panthyal area of Ramban district.
A traffic official said that the traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway remained halted for around four hours due to shooting stones at Panthyal area of Ramban.
“The iron tunnel at Panthyal also suffered damage to a large extent due to continuous shooting stones,” he said.
He said soon after the shooting stones incident, the authorities pressed men and machinery into service following which the road was thrown open for traffic in the evening.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Ramban, Mohita Sharma tweeted, “NH 44 through for traffic after clearance. Travel with caution”.
Meanwhile, the traffic department issued a fresh advisory, stating that subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. “TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic”, the advisory said.
About the cut of timing for LMVS/ Passenger/Private cars it said to be released from Nagrota (Jammu) from 0800 hrs. to 1100 hrs. from Jakheni (Udhampur) 0900 hrs to 1200 hrs & from Qazigund 0900 hrs to 1200 hrs”.
“TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the traffic advisory and cut off timings. No vehicle shall be allowed to move before and after cut off timings”.
Regarding traffic plan for HMVs/Load Carriers advisory said Subject to fair weather and road clearance, HMVs shall be allowed from NAVYUG Tunnel towards Jammu after assessing the road and traffic situation on NH-44. “TCU Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the HMVs”
The advisory said, the SSG Road is closed for vehicular movement vide Divisional Commissioner Ladakh UT’s order no. 75 dated 06-01-2023 in view of snow accumulation.
“Mughal Road closed for vehicular movement vide District Magistrate Shopian’s order endstt. no. DMS/PA/2023/1362-67 dated 05-01-2023 in view of snow accumulation”, it stated.
