Baramulla, Jan 19: In order to review the progress of Farmer Producer Organization (FPO’s) for better collectivization and commercialization of farmer’s produce and approval of new FPO Blocks in the district, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar who is also Chairman DMC Thursday chaired a meeting to review the progress of Centerally Sponsered Scheme for formation and promotion of FPOs.
At the outset, a brief discussion was held on various aspects including deliberation on submission on ground level progress report of FPOs by implementing agencies viz NABARD, NAFED and SFAC, cold storage, market linkages, farmer mobilization and progress on new FPOs.
It was informed that the membership of the Kandi Apple FPO Wagoora, Shejaar Vegetable FPO Singhpora, Payam Dairy Cooperative Limited Kunzer has increased its members to large numbers.
During the meeting, formation of New Farmer Producer Organization (FPOs) were approved for 7 new blocks in Baramulla district to saturate the target under employment generation schemes.
On the occasion, the DC directed the concerned to provide consultation services to the FPO members on a regular basis and also provide the training to the board of directors of FPOs regarding the general business and equity grant. She also directed them to diversify the market linkages and sell the FPO products on e-commerce platforms.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr Balbir Singh, Chief Agriculture officer Yadvinder Singh, Tehsildar HQ, DDM NABARD, officers of Horticulture, Fisheries Departments and other concerned functionaries.
