Take pledge to end smoking

There has been no let up to the complaints regarding the defunct street lights in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, as the people from different parts of the City continue to highlight their demands for the repairing of street lights. However, the Corporators, who are entitled to ensure the functional street lights, are usually seen busy with making statements against each other, rather than using their positions to take care of the public issues and ensure that the people, who have elected them, could heave a sigh of relief. But, the situation has been worsening as the people from different parts of Srinagar continue to witness defunct street lights. Similar is the case with Nowhatta, Gojwara, Hawal, Makhdoom Sahib, Hazratbal, Batapora, Gasso, Chatarahama and nearby vicinities where the street lights are either defunct or have not been installed yet. In the evening hours, the people are being forced to face hardships, but the officials concerned don’t bother to put an end to the miseries of the residents of above-mentioned localities by repairing the street lights or installing these lights for the wellbeing of the people. It seems that the concerned Corporators are focussed only towards making statements against each other and have forgotten their basic responsibilities of ensuring better facilities to the people. Therefore, the concerned Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) should look into the sufferings of people and ensure that the people could heave a sigh of relief.
