The sealing of mutton shops in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital, Srinagar, has remained a hot topic for many, especially for the trade bodies to seek justice for the people involved in selling meat at exorbitant rates. Though the issue concerns with the people and needs to be dealt with strictly in a bid to provide relief to the common masses, but one fails to understand why the department concerned is turning their eye blind towards the other eatables like vegetables, fruits and other things, that too are being sell at exorbitant rates in the markets. One cannot understand the reasons that are depriving the concerned authorities to act against the fruit and vegetable sellers, who are looting people openly and don’t even bother to sell the eatables at government fixed rates. There is no stability of rates in the market. Everybody is selling the eatables as per their will and unfortunately, nobody seems concerned over the issues as the concerned department is seemingly fully focused towards mutton dealers, who like other eatable sellers have failed to adhere to the government set rates. It is undoubtedly a great move that the department is ensuring the adherence to the government rates in mutton in the markets, but at the same time, the officials should also focus on ensuring adherence to the rates of vegetables and fruits so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief. The department is genuine in taking action against the mutton dealers, but it should not be biased, but ensure that all those who are defying the government orders are taken to the task.
