Non-availability of radiologist keeps USG unit defunct at PHC Khrew

Locals demand intervention of DC Pulwama

Pulwama, Jan 23: The residents of Khrew hamlet in Pampore area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district said that USG machine at PHC Khrew is defunct as no radiologist is available at the hospital.
The residents of the area said that a large number of patients of the Khrew hamlet are suffering as they have to visit SDH Pampore or any other hospital for USG.
Owing to non- availability of Radiologist, huge number of suffers at Khrew’s PHC even though the health centre has a high-end USG machine, said Sajad Ahmad, a local resident.
“The hospital is catering to a good number of patients from Khrew town and its adjacent areas, but unfortunately due to non-availability of radiologist there, we have to travel 15 Kms to reach sub-district hospital, Pampore to get a simple USG done,” he said.
Locals said that people living in nearby areas of Khrew belong to financially weak family and they can’t afford to visit private clinics.
“We have brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities’ dozens of times but to no avail, they said.
They requested Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and other concerned authorities to look into the matter so that they won’t suffer anymore.
Dr Aasima, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Pampore said that a Sonologist posted a PHC Khrew has taken volunteer retirement.
She said that higher ups in this regard have been informed and they are expecting very soon a radiologist will be posted there.
