Ganderbal, Jan 23: Welfare Committee of Saloora area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal town has alleged that “some elements” in the village have grabbed more than a hundred kanals of state land and violated the court orders.
According to the welfare committee, “some elements” illegally occupied a huge chunk of state land in 2011 and this illegal act was reported to the district administration by the committee members.
“Finally, we approached the court where the matter was put on status quo which prevented the parties involved from affecting any change until the matter at hand was resolved,” Abdul Rashid, a committee member said.
As per the committee, which is the complainant, “the illegal occupants have violated the court orders by resuming activities on the land”.
Giving details, Abdul Rashid said, “In 2011, they illegally occupied a huge chunk of state land (Kahcharai/grazing land). The local tehsildar gave assurances that the land will continue to be well maintained. The residents have gathered evidence on it and are requesting for an investigation to be conducted by Deputy Commissioner Gandarbal.”
The committee expressed satisfaction over the administration’s ongoing drive against the government land encroachers and has urged the authorities to launch a similar drive against those who have illegally occupied the state/kahcharai land.
