Ramban, Jan 28: A couple and their two daughters were found dead apparently due to asphyxia in the Balihote area of Ramban district on Saturday, an official said.
An official said that three members of a family identified as Chain Singh, his wife Shankari Devi, and daughter Sandesha Devi, besides some cattle were found dead in their mud house at the snow-bound Sandrot village of Ramban.
“Chain Singh’s other daughter, Monika Devi, was found gasping for breath and was evacuated to the District Hospital (DH) Ramban where she was declared bought dead,” the official said.
He said the reason for deaths was yet to be ascertained, however, initial reports suggest it has been due to asphyxiation. “Postmortem of the bodies will reveal the real truth,” he said.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said that a foul smell emanated from the mud house when bodies were recovered. “It seems the incident has happened a few days ago,” a neighbor said.
Referring to the tragic incident, Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Masarat Islam said financial assistance from the Red Cross will be provided to the next of kin of the deceased.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and started further investigation in this regard. (KNO)
