Srinagar, Feb 3: The High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh has quashed the detention of a Shopian student lodged in Agra jail under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
The detainee, Saliq Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Gagren Shopian, who is a student, is presently detained in Central Jail Agra in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
He was arrested by police in Shopian last year on charges of stone-pelting.
Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak argued that the detaining authority has not attributed any specific allegation against the detainee. He contended that the detainee was arrested in old cases and on charges of ‘fake’ stone-pelting.
The court of Justice Sanjay Dhar accordingly quashed his detention and ordered his release from the Agra Jail. [KNT]
