Pulwama, Feb 8: The residents of Begam Bagh village of Kakapora hamlet in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district alleged that they are facing shortage of potable water in the area.
Accusing the authorities of ignoring their plights, the residents demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.
The residents said that acute water scarcity has hit their village since the last several years while the officials are paying no heed to their sufferings.
A local resident said that area was getting water from Newa Water supply scheme but the scheme is defunct now for unknown reasons.
She added that in absence of potable water, they are forced to drink contaminated water due to which people, mainly elderly and children, often fall ill.
Another lady said that on the one hand the government is putting emphasis on cleanliness but on the other hand we are forced to drink contaminated water.
She said that authorities are risking the lives of the people by forcing them to drink contaminated water.
An elderly man from the area said that around four years ago they were assured that the area will be connected with one scheme and even pipes were laid but were not connected with it as of now.
He said that almost every day, they have been visiting offices but no step is being taken on ground despite their repeated assurances.
Locals said that they have brought this issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They requested the officials to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
