The government is putting every effort to reduce the number of road accidents in Jammu & Kashmir, but the imperative changes that need to be made in curbing the accidents are not being made yet. There are reports coming to the fore that the administration has erected or built the road dividers in a bid to streamline the traffic, but these road dividers are turning out to be a major reasons for the accidents as the authorities concerned have unfortunately failed to install or place reflectors on the dividers, causing immense hardships to the drivers to identify the dividers during evening hours. One fails to understand what measures are being taken amid the claims of administration with regard to reducing the number of road accidents. It is indeed impossible to identify the road dividers without the reflectors during evening hours, thus increasing the number of road accidents on the ground. The government has been organizing events to commemorate road safety week everywhere in Jammu & Kashmir, but until and unless such situations are not changed on the ground, the number of accidents can never be reduced, but would only increase the fatal accidents and can cost the precious lives as well. Therefore, it is the time when the administration should identify all these spots to ensure that proper reflectors are installed on the road dividers so that the drivers would easily identify them, which would simultaneously help in reducing the number of road accidents on the ground. These basic changes are imperative to reduce the number of road accidents and the concerned department should take immediate measures in this regard at earliest.
