DC inaugurates first Drug De-addiction Centre at Bandipora

Bandipora, Feb 21: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmad on Tuesday inaugurated the first ever full fledged Drug De-addiction centre at Old SDH Bandipora.
The centre will be managed by District Administration Bandipora in collaboration with District Social Welfare Office Bandipora under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign.
The inaugural Ceremony was attended by Nodal officer Coordination M A Hakak, Jt. Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmed, ASP Aashiq Hussain Tak, DSP Headquarter Shafat Mohammad, MS District Hospital Bandipora, and other concerned officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that the centre will provide awareness, counselling, stabilization, identification, education, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, whole person recovery and Drug Demand reduction.
The DDC visited different sections of centre including Counselling room, ward rooms, office and took stock of the arrangements for patients and attendents. He also discussed the services to be provided by the centre like extra-curricular activities.
He directed the staff to start work as soon as possible and make admission open. He also directed the staff to work regularly and maintain proper records of patients.
The DDC directed the officials to organize awareness camps to motivate the patients to come forward and work in coordination to eradicate this evil crime from our district.
An official informed that the centre is providing free shelter and female Counsellors for female addicts and their aim is to make bandipora drug free District. “We will treat the patient till he/ she realizes that they have now become capable to associate with their family and friends well”.
While addressing on the drug de-addiction, one of doctor said that it is a long process and it needs lot of efforts and patience by patient and his family. He also talked about various steps of treatment that will be provided by them for patients like behavioral therapy and withdrawal therapy as drug addiction can not be withdrawn instantly.
On the occasion, State Coordinator for drug de-addiction Jammu and Kashmir under ministry of social justice and affairs in his speech talked about 3 programmes of home affairs that are targeting of Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.
