Srinagar, Feb 23: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Senior leader and State Secretary Sakina Itoo on Thursday expressed anguish over the fateful incident of landslide that completely damaged two houses and three shops at Shalmachi, Yaarikhah in Nandimarg area of DH Pora Kulgam.
Expressing sympathies with the affected families, Sakina Itoo urged district administration to grant ex-gratia from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to them. Luckily there wasn’t any human loss, but a couple of shops and a house nearby has partially got damaged, she said, asking the administration to assess the losses for further action.
She also asked the government to alert the local civil bodies and district administration to remove the debris from the spot and relocate the victim families to safer spots.
She demanded that a team from the geology and mining department and revenue department should be deputed to the area to monitor the unfolding situation. “A thorough inquiry should be conducted to ascertain the reasons behind the landslide. Timely measures should be taken to put such landslide prone areas on alert to evade any eventuality.”
She prayed for early revival of the victim families and traders. “I hope the administration will reach out to victim families and traders with adequate relief and compensation without delay,” she added.
