Ganderbal, Mar 3: In the first two months of this year, police in Ganderbal have cracked the whip on the illegal miners of minerals and those involved in its transportation.
Stringent action has been taken against the illegal extraction of minerals like sand, bajri, boulders, etc.
Under the directions of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar, special police teams were constituted, which were led by SHOs and DOs of police stations and police posts under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Muzaffar Jan and DySP Hqrs Ganderbal Ghulam Hassan to check the menace of illegal mining in the district, a police official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
During the course of action, 15 drivers were arrested, 8 tippers and 6 tractors were also seized on the spot, the official said, adding that these vehicles were loaded with illegally extracted bajri, sand and boulders from Nallah Sindh Ganderbal.
In this regard, a Case under FIR numbers 04,12, 01, 20, 22, 19, 21, 03, 08, 09, 02 and 03 of 2023 IPC, under relevant sections of law stands registered at PS Lar, PS Ganderbal, PS Kangan, PS Safapora & PS Kheerbawani respectively, and the investigations have been taken up, he said.
Meanwhile, during a joint action by Ganderbal Police along with the Geology and Mining Department, different locations were raided in which 27 tippers and 18 tractors involved in the illegal extraction of minor minerals from Nallah Sind Ganderbal, were seized.
