Srinagar, Mar 8: Director Colleges, Dr Yasmeen Ashaiye, on Wednesday said that gender equality is crucial in Jammu & Kashmir, especially in the face of rising cases of domestic violence and other crimes against women.
Dr Ashaiye, stressed that educating girls and making them aware of their legal rights and responsibilities is vital to making them responsible and socially productive members of society.
She was addressing a function at Women’s College here in connection with International Women’s Day.
Director Colleges urged parents to involve their daughters in major decisions at home, saying there will be no change in society until people change their mindset. “Education is not only for all-round development but also for all-round empowerment,” she stressed.
Dr Ashaiye highlighted the need to teach girls about equality and equity and to end the belief that males are superior to females. She expressed optimism that this change will happen soon and urged everyone to do their part in making it a reality.
The function at Women’s College was a reminder of the crucial role that education and awareness play in achieving gender equality, particularly in regions like Jammu & Kashmir where it is needed the most, the organisers said.
