On the eve of International Womens’ day, the government has organized several seminars and programmes in a bid to highlight the role of women within the society. Several initiatives have been taken by the government to promote and ensure women empowerment on the ground, but some incidents faced by the womenfolk indicated that the women are not getting the deserved respect. In the recent past, the incidents have shocked the conscience of the people as some faced dowry related issues, harassment, eve-teasing, domestic violence and other issues. Such incidents need to be put to an immediate end as the woman is the crown of the society and thus deserves respect and honour. Recently, a girl faced harassment in Srinagar’s Dalgate area when two bike-borne youth were seen harassing the girl, a video of which went viral as well. The authorities in a swift action arrested the duo and also seized the vehicle following which the administration suspended the registration of the scooty as well. The action was imperative as it would help in curbing such incidents against the women within the society. There is a need to take further measures to put an end to the issues being faced by the women day-in and day-out so that they could heave a sigh of relief. On the international womens’ day the government should make every possible effort to mitigate the sufferings of the women, which would ensure security to them and also help to have a life with dignity.
