Good education system will ensure prosperity: Member Niti Aayog

Anantnag Mar 14: Dr. VK Saraswat, a member of Niti Aayog and a renowned Indian Scientist, visited the Eklavya Model Residential School in Anantnag, Tuesday.
Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Dr. Basharat Qayoom, Director Tribal Affairs, Musheer Ahmad, and Deputy Director Tribal Affairs Abdul Khabir; Dr. Saraswat inspected the school’s state-of-the-art facilities, including smart classrooms, laboratories, library, and hostel for students, particularly those belonging to the ST community.
Established in 1997-98, EMRS aims to provide quality education to ST children in remote areas, enabling them to pursue higher education and employment opportunities. EMRSs are set up in States/UTs with grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India.
During his visit, Dr. Saraswat congratulated the District Administration for setting up such a well-equipped school and making it functional in a short duration. He urged the students and staff to ensure that every child without access to education is given the opportunity to study at the school. He emphasized that the Government of India is committed to ensuring that every child in the country has access to excellent education.
Dr. Saraswat’s impressive background includes serving as the Director General of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Indian Minister of Defence. He is a key scientist in the development of the Prithvi missile and its induction in the Indian armed forces. He is also a recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan from the Government of India.
In addition to his visit to EMRS, Dr. Saraswat mentioned that Atal Tinkering Labs are being set up to encourage innovation and creativity among students.
Highlighting the importance of education, he said a good education system will ensure prosperity for our nation in the future.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag emphasized the importance of investing in the education sector, as a well-educated child can become a valuable contributor to the nation’s development. He stressed the need for affirmative action to provide equal opportunities to students from remote areas, which has been implemented through initiatives such as EMRS. These measures are essential to ensure the welfare of all students.
He encouraged students to work hard and directed staff to provide all necessary facilities to support their education. The occasion was marked by cultural performances by the students, which were appreciated by the visiting guests.
Dr. Saraswat also recognized the achievements of students who excelled in academics, sports, and other extracurricular activities.
The event was attended by ADDC, JD Planning, DD Tribal Affairs, CMO, CEO, BMO Mattan, DEPO, management, staff and students of EMRS Salia among others
